Safeguarding
Discovery Primary School - Safeguarding and child Protection policy
Our policy is written with due regard to the Department for Education’s statutory guidance:
Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025
Safeguarding means protecting children from abuse and neglect, preventing harm to their health or development, and ensuring they grow up in safe and effective care.
At Discovery Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support children, families and staff at school.
We ensure that all staff receive appropriate training, guidance and support to undertake the effective safeguarding of children.
Any concerns are passed through the designated safeguarding leaders within the school.
Designated Safeguarding Leads:
Sarah Harvey-Royle – DSL
Victoria Archer – DSL
Barbara Harding – Deputy DSL
Joanna Osman – Deputy DSL
Charlotte Brigly – Deputy DSL
Rachel Smith – Deputy DSL
The safety and wellbeing of all children and young people is of paramount importance. Parents and carers send their children to school each day with the expectation that the school provides a safe and secure environment in which their children can flourish. Should any parent or visitor have a concern about a child’s safety they should speak directly to a DSL. They can be contacted via the school office at Discovery.
At Discovery the children receive the NSPCC education of ‘Speak out to stay safe’, they are taught:
· To understand that abuse is never their fault, and that they have the right to be safe
· What to do if they are ever made to feel scared or worried by something
· About healthy relationships and their right to be safe and respected
Sylvester Ojobo is the appointed governor for Child Protection and Looked After Children. Regular meetings take place with the designated safeguarding lead.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child's welfare.
We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
Safeguarding children and young people is everyone’s responsibility and anyone is able to make a referral or report a concern. Should you have any concerns about a child you can contact MASH:
